The Hymer MLT 4×4 does suffer with rear end sag when it comes out of the factory. As standard they are fitted with an additional leaf added to the original leaf spring setup, this additional spring is supplied by Goldschmitt.

Even with this additional leaf the rear end still struggles to cope with the additional weight of the camper.  The easiest way to over come this problem is to install air bags on the rear axle.  We can offer air assist by VB air suspension and Goldschmitt.  Due to chassis strengthening the Goldschmitt system will not fit without water and waste tank modifications, the VB system can be installed without this modification, this is because the chassis strengthening runs from front to back instead of side to side.  Both systems have their own compressor to allow you to raise and lower the rear end, gauges are installed on the dash board so the pressure in the bags can be monitored.

The other option is to install full air suspension, we can only offer VB full air as Goldschmitt currently do not offer a system for this vehicle.  The full air system does require the waste water tank to be replaced with a smaller tank and the tank cover to be modified.

If you are planning to use your MTL 4×4 on rough roads, or just further improve the road handling of the vehicle, a shock absorber replacement should also be considered.  The vehicle in the picture was fitted with VB semi air and Koni shocks all round.  This made, not only a massive improvement in the driving experience and the road handling, but also improved the vehicle appearance.

The standard wheels installed on the Hymer MLT 4×4 are functional, but do not offer the rugged look the vehicle deserves, by adding larger wheels and off road tyres, the look of the vehicle is greatly improved.

When fitting different wheels to any vehicle, it is important to make sure they are the correct specification.  If the wheels are not rated to carry the weight of the vehicle, then you would potentially have insurance issues should you be involved in an accident.  The Method Alloys installed on the vehicle below, not only look good but are the correct specification.  The Method wheels also have bead lock, this will assist with keeping the tyres on the rim if you ever need to reduce the pressure to cross sand or mud.

The MLT 4×4 in the picture was supplied from the factory with 16″ wheels, we increased the wheel size to 17″ and increased the size of the tyre.  By doing this you will slightly affect how accurate the speedo is, but they are not massively accurate in the first place.  If you decide you would like even bigger wheels, you will need to add a speedo modification unit so the speedo remains calibrated.
